GNOMES AND HUMANS have many gardening tastes in common, but there are big differences. The main one of course is over the use of chemicals. Gnomes are not against them in principle because they have some pretty toxic tinctures of their own for controlling pests. The difference is that most of our pesticides seem like biological flame-throwers to them, wiping out everything in sight. Most of their own potions are designed simply to discourage pests from settling in the first place.

Snails and dandelions are two of the greatest banes of human gardeners in cool climates, but gnomes happen to be very fond of them both. Not only do they love dandelions as a flower and for the way they scatter seeds like fairies on the breeze, they also love dandelion wine and use the plant in endless cooking recipes.
