Guarded by Angels
And the cherubim shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the Mercy Seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another.
Cherubim played an active part in the Old Testament. It was they who drove Adam and Eve out of Eden and guarded the entrance to keep them out. They were also personifications of the winds, God's charioteers when He moved abroad through the universe, as well as being His messengers and overseeing the government of the kingdom of heaven. According to some, the name 'cherubim' means 'Fullness of Knowledge', though it is related to the Assyrian word 'karibu' meaning 'interceder' or 'one who prays'.
