Other artists were involved in this project but I ended up doing the bulk of the illustrations (though not the cover). Sometimes all that was needed was to tidy up other people's sketches which the publisher had sent us, but often you could just improvise. I ended up doing more drawings in three months than either before or since. The pleasure with the cartoons was to try and cheer up kids who probably didn't want to be in Science class in the first place, especially on a hot summer afternoon. It helped that I remembered the science from school - also the boredom.
