HERE ARE A COUPLE OF DRAWINGS of my local pub as it was for many years before it burned down in the 1990s. Parts of it dated back, so local legend had it, to the sixteenth or seventeenth centuries; but it had burned down before in the 1930s and so much of it dated from then. It still had low beams you'd crack your head on though, and other odd, ancient features that resulted from it having been knocked together from three adjoining peasants' cottages. It was rebuilt after the 1990s fire though and at first glance looks much the same, but straighter and more sensibly laid out inside to serve its purpose.
