NEXT TO KAY NIELSEN, Arthur Rackham stands as one of my favourite
illustrators. He was astonishingly prolific and his quality never seemed to falter. No area of myth or fantasy seemed closed to him and I was at a bit of a loss when choosing a representative sample to show here till it occurred to me to concentrate on just one of his projects - Wagner's Ring cycle. Even then it took some thought to whittle down the numbers.
